CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Phoebe Peters, 3 Apr 1949 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Obituary appeared in the Monday April 4, 1949 Elizabethton Star Mrs. Phoebe Peters, 70, died suddenly at her home on Route 2, Elizabethton, Sunday at 10:10 p.m. She was a member of the Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, John Peters, Sr.; two sons, Rube and Alfred Peters both of Route 2; two daughters, Mrs. Henry Taylor of Route 2, and Mrs. Dallas Smith of Johnson City; two brothers Jim and George Peters both of Route 2; two sisters, Mrs. Connie White and Mrs. D.C. Cole both of Route 2; eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at the Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Handy Wilcox officiating assisted by the Rev. Nat Campbell, and Rev. Ed Burnette. Burial will be in the Peters cemetery. The nephews will serve as active pallbearers and the nephews will be flower bearers. The body will be returned to the home today at 5:30 p.m. from the chapel of the Tetrick Funeral Home. (Phoebe was the daughter of Alfred M. Peters 1853-1912 and Nancy Nidiffer 1854-1927.
