Ben H. Peters, 83 of Rt 2 Hampton died at 6:25 pm Monday at his home after a
lingering illness.  Mr. Peters was a native and lifelong resident of Carter
County.  He was a member of the Union Baptist Church.  Surviving are his wife,
Mrs. Rosa Campbell Peters, a son Charles Peters, a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence
Whitehead; four grandchildren, three great grandchildren and serveral nieces
and nephews.  Funeral services for Ben H. Peters will be conducted from the
Union Baptist Church Thursday at 2:30 pm with Rev. Haskel Ingram, Jr. & Rev.
W.W. Ward officiation.  Church choir will be in charge of music.  Active
Pallbearers; Paul E. Lewis, Don Lewis, Allen Doss, G.M. Campbell, Henry
Greene, Jr., Hoover Oliver, Luke Shaw, and Grant Whitehead.  Honorary
pallbearers will be:  Dr. E.L. Caudill, Jr., George Brown, R.L. Campbell, P.R.
Campbell, George Oliver, Fate Goodwin, Ernest Brumitt, Gene Campbell, Harold
Lewis, Lewis Shaw, Lot Carden, John Glover, Willard Rainbolt, D.O. Johnson,
Fate Oliver, Brown Blevins, Henry Greene, Sr., M. Shook, W.O. Johnson, Ralph
Montgomery, Herman Johnson, Walter (Buck) Van Huss, Charlie Pierce, Coy
Hinkle, Chase Teague, Hugh G. Pierce, Adron Campbell, George Campbell, John
Stout and J.D. Stout.  Flower bearers will be friends and neighbors.  The body
will remain at the funeral home chapel and the family will receive friends on
Tuesday from 7 to 9 pm then will be removed to the home at 10 am Wednesday.
Will be removed to the church at 12 noon Thursday to await the service hour.
Burial in Union Baptist Church cemetery.  Hathaway Percy Funeral Home is in
charge of arrangements.

(Benjamin H. Peters was the son of Thomas H. Peters c1830-1881 and Nancy
Morton 1836-1915)
