Conley R. Peters

Conley R. Peters, age 87, Highway 91, Elizabethton, died 
Monday, October 20, 2003, at his residence following a brief 
illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late 
William Bill and Zella Nidiffer Peters. He was a charter member 
of Unaka Baptist Church and served a number of years as custodian. 
He retired from North American Rayon Corporation after 45 years of 
service. Mr. Peters was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge No. 238 
F. & A.M., Elizabethton. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was 
preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Lola Garland 
Peters, his second wife, Jeanette Peters and four brothers. 
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Lemmie 
Taylor, Elizabethton; twin sons and two daughters-in-law, Zayne 
and Vickie Peters, Kingston, Tenn., Wayne and Nora Peters, 
Elizabethton; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and seven 
great-grandchildren. Two special friends, Bessie Miles and Rob 
Greer, also survive. 
The funeral service was conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, 
2003, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton, with 
the Rev. Walker Roberson officiating. Music was under the direction 
of John Blair. The graveside service and interment will be conducted 
at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 23, at Blevins Cemetery. Active 
pallbearers will be Lemmie Taylor, Tim Rasnick, Lanny Peters, Kevin 
Peters, Rob Greer, Tony Jones, Dwayne Taylor and Norman Peters. 
Honorary pallbearers will be Adult Mens Sunday School Class of Unaka 
Baptist Church, Richard Lancaster and Conway Markland. Those who 
plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral 
home chapel at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, to go in procession to the 
cemetery. The family received friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, 
October 22, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, or friends 
may also call at the residence, 1889 Highway 91, Elizabethton, any 
time. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make 
donations in memory of Mr. Peters to Blevins Cemetery Fund, c/o 
Sophia Wilson, 237 Peters Hollow Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
