CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Fornia D. Peters, 18 Sep 2004 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Fornia D. Peters, 75, 1115 Broad Street, Elizabethton, former Tennessee State Representative, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2004 in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late William "Bill" and Rosa Colbaugh Peters. Mr. Peters was a 1947 graduate of Unaka High School, earning his master's degree from the University of Virginia. He retired due to disability from Carter County Bank in 1979 after serving 30 years as cashier and executive vice president. He served as state representative from the First Judicial District from 1968 to 1970. Mr. Peters was on the board of the Elizabethton Housing Authority, and was a former member of the board of the Elizabethton Electric System and the board of the Carter County Rescue Squad where he assisted in obtaining their charter. He was a member and former president of the Elizabethton Kiwanis Club and was also a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238. He was a charter member of Unaka Baptist Church and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elizabethton. He was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers, Webb, Roy, Clarence, Henry, Thomas, Herman, Walter, Arlie and Clyde, and one sister, Ella Range. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Peggy Elliott Peters; two daughters and one son-in-law, Lisa Peters and Gregory Swift, of Cleveland, Tenn., and Rebecca Peters Bowers, of Elizabethton; three granddaughters, Whitney Bowers Christiansen, and husband, Alan, of Clinton, Wash.; Rebecca Swift and Rachael Swift, of Cleveland, Tenn.; two great-grandsons, Lucas and Larsen Christiansen, of Clinton, Wash., and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2004 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jim Lindsay officiating. Music will be provided by Mr. Gary Rice. Graveside services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2004 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday will be Gerald Peters, Leonard Peters, Ed Peters, Lynn Peters, Mike Peters and Wayne Turbyfill. Honorary pallbearers will be class members of the 1947 graduating class of Unaka High School, employees and former employees of Carter County Bank, state representatives and United States representatives and senators, officials of the city and county governments, staff and employees of the Elizabethton Housing Authority, members of the Carter County Rescue Squad, his former and present neighbors and his many friends. The family wishes to express a special "thank you" to the staff and employees of the Johnson City Medical Center, Sycamore Shoals Hospital, Dr. Harold Alison and staff, Dr. Stephen Fahrig and associates, Dr. James Davenport, Dr. Michelle Davenport and ther staff, and nurses of the Medical Center Home Care Service. The family will receive friends following the funeral service. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Peters to the Carter County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 776, Elizabethton, TN 37644. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery.
