CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Ila Ruth Townsend Peters, 10 Mar 2005 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Ila Ruth Townsend Peters, 81, Field Road, Elizabethton, died Thursday, March 10, 2005, at her home following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Peters was a native of Washington County and a daughter of the late Azor Vestal and Malinda Addeline Austin Townsend. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Evant H. "Smiley" Peters, March 10, 1983, four brothers, Walter Townsend, Carl Townsend, John Townsend and Leonard Townsend, and two sisters, Mary Oaks and Merle Wilson. Mrs. Peters was a member of West Side Christian Church, where she served as a Primary Class Sunday School teacher and choir member for over 25 years. She was a retired employee of Watson's Department Store. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Ted Hamilton, Johnson City, and Brenda and Tony Hyder, Elizabethton; six grandchildren and their spouses, Evant James and Sandy Hamilton, Katrina and John Hopson, Cynthia and Bobby Elliott, Angie and Joseph Oliver, Debbie and Jerry Hodges and Tabitha and Brent Blackwell, all of Elizabethton; 11 great-grandchildren, Lindsay and Tiffany Hamilton, Blake, Jaycee and Colbie Hopson, Jordan and Hunter Hodges, Colton Elliott, Ciara and Xavier Oliver, and Cole Blackwell, all of Elizabethton; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Wanda and Al Lyons, Elizabethton, and Stella and Lloyd Potter, Fairfield, Ohio. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Mrs. Peters also had a special Christian friend and caregiver, Mary Ann Shell, Elizabethton. The funeral service for Mrs. Peters will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at West Side Christian Church with former minister, Mr. Jim Curtis, and current minister, Mr. Greg Key, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Beth Ann Henley, soloist, and Rhesa Dykes, pianist. The graveside service and interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, March 11, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home. Friends may also call at other times at the residence, 414 Field Road, Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons, grandsons-in-law and great-grandsons: Evant James Hamilton, John Hopson, Jerry Hodges, Bobby Elliott, Joseph Oliver, Brent Blackwell, Blake Hopson and Jordan Hodges. Honorary pallbearers will be Colton Elliott, Hunter Hodges, Xavier Oliver Cole Blackwell, Carroll Lowe, Jack Honeycutt and the elders and deacons of West Side Christian Church.
