CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - James "Ron" Phillips, 24 Nov 2004 ----¤¤¤---- James "Ron" Phillips, 86, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, November 24, 2004 in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Thomas Monroe and Hessie Weaver Phillips. He was a retired welder. Mr. Phillips was a member of the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters, Local 538, Johnson City. He was a member of East Side Christian Church. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Andrews Phillips, August 29, 2002; by a sister, Ann Briggs and three brothers, Thomas, Fred and Edward. Survivors include two daughters, Jane Phillips, Johnson City, and Pat Kennedy, Elizabethton; a son and daughter-in-law, William "Bill" and Robin Phillips, Elizabethton; a sister, Geneva Timbs, Elizabethton; two brothers, Dennis Phillips, Johnson City, and Gilbert "Bud" Phillips, Elizabethton; 8 grandchildren, T. Sgt. Ronald C. Carden, Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Guam; Leah Thompson and her husband, Kevin, of Culleoka, Tenn.; Wendy Christopher and her husband, David, of Atlanta; Rebecca Chambers and her husband, Chad, of Morristown, Tenn.; Crystal Ward and her hsuband, Rex; Jody Phillips and his wife, Christina, and Melissa Archambault, all of Elizabethton, and Jeremy Archambault, of New Hampshire. Funeral services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2004 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. John Jones officiating. Graveside services and burial will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 28, 2004 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Rebecca Chambers will provide the music. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Sunday will be Ronnie Carden, Kevin Thompson, Jody Phillips, Rex Ward, Wayne Phillips, Chad Chambers, James Neece and David Christopher. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Matthew Parks, Mac McKinney, Jim Carr, Dr. Stephanie Powell, Fred Montgomery, Dr. Jay L. Allen, Glen Mettler, Richard Mettler, Wallace Timbs, Edward Wright, the staff of Broadmore Assisted Living and the staff at the VA Urology Clinic. Military honors will be conducted by the Tennessee National Guard. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Friends may call at the home of any of the children.
