Pierce 08/18/99 Carroll B. Pierce, 77, 104 Cunningham Street, Elizabethton, died unexpectedly Tuesday, August 17, 1999, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Mr. Pierce was a native of Shell Creek and a son of the late R.B. and Orpha Wagner Pierce. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ellis Pierce. Mr. Pierce was a graduate of Cloudland High School and attended Milligan College. He was retired from the U.S. Forest Service, having been employed for 35 years in the Watauga and Unaka Ranger Districts of the Cherokee National Forest. He was a member and Deacon of the C Street Church of Christ and was an Army Veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Irene Smith Pierce; three daughters, Cathy Hampton-Long, Maryville, Gloria Blevins, Abingdon, Va., and Sonya Batchelder, Elizabethton; and two sons, Dennis Pierce and Benny Pierce, both of Elizabethton. Three grandsons, seven granddaughters and three nephews also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. PIERCE -- Funeral services for Carroll B. Pierce, 77, 104 Cunningham Street, Elizabethton, who died Tuesday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Howard Eddy Craft, minister, officiating. Music will be by the Congregation. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, will be Benny Pierce, Bret Hampton, Derek Hampton, Chad Hampton, Jamie Batchelder, Jamie Pierce, Charlie Reeves and Ken Rainbolt. Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Long, Orville Marlow, Billy Pierce, Steve Roberts, former employees of the Watauga and Unaka Ranger Districts of the Cherokee National Forest and Elders and Deacons of C Street Church of Christ. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Pierce to the C Street Church of Christ, 137 East C Street, Elizabethton, Tenn. 37643. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
