Mrs. Pierce was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Aude and Lucy McKinney Taylor. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Conley Pierce, December 24, 1990, and a brother, Ernest Taylor. Mrs. Pierce was a member of the Graduation Class of 1931, Elizabethton High School, and attended Elizabethton Business College. She was a member of East Side Baptist Church, where she was a former president of the Annie Hyder Sunday School Class and former superintendent of the Primary Department for 35 years. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Shea and Michael Gass, Elizabethton; two grandsons, Travis Lance Gass and Justin Todd Gass, both of Elizabethton; two nephews, Jack Scott and Sturgill Lewis, both of Elizabethton; four nieces, Tootsie Campbell, Yvonne Fowler and Kathleen Glover, all of Elizabethton, and Linda McIntosh, Jonesborough; and special friends, Blakeley Brown, Bristol, and Rocie Clark, Hillview Nursing Home. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. PIERCE -- Graveside services for Mrs. Haven "Jackie" Pierce, 88, of Hillview Nursing Home, formerly of 1106 DeJarnette Street, Elizabethton, who died Thursday, December 14, 2000, will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, December 17, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Dr. Dwight Hobbs and the Rev. Phil Gass officiating. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Sunday, will be Justin Gass, Travis Gass, Bill Schaff, Mark Schaff, Jack Scott, John R. Campbell, Fred Wetzel, Tom Wetzel, Doyle Smith and Bobby Gass. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Scott, Nathan Goodwin, Horace Broome, Rob Carter, Bill Broome, Mary Lou Wetzel, Vicky and Ricky Paul Whisenhunt, Sue Peters, Don Peters, Mable and Sam Rogers, Everette Lee Gass, Barbara and Claude Duncan, Billie Jean Powell, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Stitt, Mr. and Mrs. Roy McKinney, Lucille Coleman, Cindy Range, Dwight and Donna Hobbs, Dr. Eugene Galloway, Goldia Scott, Sylvia Lewis, Vicky Chambers, members of the Annie Hyder Sunday School Class, the Brownlow Scalf Sunday School Class and all members of East Side Baptist Church and employees, staff and residents of Hillview Nursing Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Shea and Michael Gass, 173 Southgate Drive, Elizabethton. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Sunday to go to the cemetery. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
