CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Ray Hugh Pierce, 22 Jan 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Ray Hugh Pierce, 87, Piercetown Rd., Butler, died Thursday, January 22, 2004 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Crumley and Cora Presnell Pierce. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. He was a member of Piercetown Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Goldie Glover Pierce, October 23, 2002; by six sisters, Virginia White, Maude Broyles, Essie Pierce, Stella Grindstaff, Dorothy Oliver and Lola Broyles, and two brothers, W.C. Pierce, Jr. and Gaston Pierce. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Stony and Bud Miller and Robin Potter, all of Butler; three sons and daughters-in- law, Gary and Hazel Pierce, of Fresno, Ohio; Montie and Brenda Pierce and Johnny and Kathy Pierce, all of Butler; a sister, Jean Perry; 10 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2004 in the National Cemetery, Mountain Home, with the Rev. Harvey White and Rev. Oddis Dugger, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow the service. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. VFW Post #2166 will provide military graveside honors. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Friday to go to the cemetery. Condolences may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
