CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Mary Ruth Pierce, 28 Nov 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Mary Ruth Pierce, 74, Butler, died Sunday, November 28, 2004 in the Hermitage Health Care Center after an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late James A. and Lucinda Johnson Peters. Mrs. Pierce was retired from Burlington Industries and was a member of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers, George Wayne Peters and William Wade Peters; a sister, Thelma Jean Collier, and a son-in-law, Gary Whitson. Survivors include her husband, Haskel Pierce; a daughter, Elizabeth Whitson; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jack Kyte, of Elizabethton; two sons, Doug and Richard Pierce, of Butler; five grandchildren, Monica Brummitt, Alison Pierce and Angeline Pierce, of Hampton; Jennifer Kyte, of Elizabethton, and Jacqueline Sommers, of Georgia; four great-grandchildren, Hanah Brummitt, Hazen Brummitt, Jordan Sommers and Breanna Sommers; one sister, Linda Maynard, of Baxter, Tenn. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at Cobbs Creek Baptist Church in Butler with Rev. Alan Koch officiating. Music will be provided by the church choir. Active pallbearers will be Wayne Ellis, Junior Davis, Darrell Ward, Jeffery Pierce, Greg Johnson and Bob Ward. Honorary pallbearers will be James Maynard, Jack Kyte, Robin Sommers, Randy Lewis, Larry Shoun, Frank Osborne, George Lowe, Dr. Robert Sams, Dr. Robert Walter, staff and caregivers at Hermitage Health Care, deacons and her church family, Dr. Jerry Gastineau and Nancy. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Butler Memorial Cemetery.
