CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Mildred Banner Piercy, 9 Aug 2003 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Mildred B. Piercy Mildred Banner Piercy, 102, Holly Lane, Elizabethton, died Saturday, August 9, 2003, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Piercy was a native of Banner Elk, Avery County, N.C., and had been a resident of Elizabethton for over 70 years. She was the daughter of the late John William Banner Jr. and the late Mollie Louzenia Hodges Shoemaker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roger E. Piercy, with whom she was co-owner of Carter County Motor Company, and by a brother, two sisters, three half sisters and two half brothers. Mrs. Piercy was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton, where she was a former Sunday School teacher and was a member of United Methodist Women. She was a 1918 graduate of Lees-McRae Institute and was a former school teacher in Banner Elk, Newland and Landis, N.C. Survivors include a nephew, Claude Banner Jr., Welch, W.Va.; a niece, Adele Christie, of Kansas; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Piercy, Johnson City. Several great-nieces and great-nephews also survive. The graveside service for Mrs. Piercy will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday, August 11, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Buford Hankins officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, August 12, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 2:10 p.m. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations in memory of Mrs. Piercy to First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton, 325 East E. Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
