Posey 01/18/99 Mrs. Florence June Boone Posey, age 85, 205 Sawdust Trail, Roan Mountain, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in the Memorial Medical Center- Baptist Mercy Hospital, New Orleans, La., following a short illness. Mrs. Posey was a native of Roan Mountain, had resided in central Florida for 15 years, and returned to east Tennessee upon retirement. She was a daughter of the late James Boone (a direct descendant of Daniel Boone) and Loretta Tipton Boone. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ennis Howard Posey, three brothers: John, Herman and Ernest Boone, and by three sisters: Bertha Hughes, Maxie Street and Hazel Street. Mrs. Posey was a retired teacher, teaching in the Carter County School System for 24 years and in a Florida school system for 15 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Roan Mountain. Survivors are two daughters and sons-in-law: Ramona J. and Brad Tashenberg, of Houston, Texas; and Judy K. and Al LaBlanc, of New Orleans, La; one sister, Lydia Powell, of Roan Mountain; three grandchildren, Greg Creekmore, of Houston, Texas, Jimmy Davis and Angela Davis Kelleher, both of New Orleans, La; and two great-grandchildren: Alex and Dylan Davis, of New Orleans, La. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. POSEY -- Florence June Boone Posey, age 85, retired school teacher, beloved mother and friend, passed away Jan. 15, 1999, at Memorial Medical Center- Baptist Mercy Hospital, in New Orleans, La. Mrs. Posey was the widow of Ennis Howard Posey, and daughter of James Boone, direct descendant of Daniel Boone, and Loretta Tipton Boone of Roan Mountain. Mrs. Posey was educated at East Tennessee State University. She was an educator, teaching in the Carter County school system for 24 years. In 1958, the Posey family relocated to central Florida, where Mrs. Posey taught school for another 15 years before retiring. Upon retirement, she returned to the East Tennessee mountains, family and friends she loved so much. Mrs. Posey is survived by her two daughters: Ramona J. Tashenberg, son-in-law, Brad, Houston, Texas; and Judy K. LeBlanc, son-in-law Al, of New Orleans, La.; three grandchildren: Greg Creekmore, Houston Texas; Jimmy Davis and Angela Davis Kelleher, of New Orleans, La; and two great-grandchildren: Alex and Dylan Davis, of New Orleans, La. Mrs. Posey has one surviving sister, Mrs. Lydia Powell, Roan Mountain, many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Our wonderful mother was one of eight children: three brothers: John, Herman and Ernest Boone; four sisters: Bertha Hughes, Lydia Powell, Maxie Street and Hazel Street. The Boone family was very close with one another. Sister Bertha passed away in the early 1990s; sisters Hazel and Maxie passed away within four days of one another in April, 1998. Brother Ernest died on the same day as our mother, Jan. 15, 1999. We will miss them all and especially miss their wonderful sense of humor which was always present. We will miss their smiling faces and laughter they provided us over the years. Special friends our mother requested to be mentioned are Mr. and Mrs. Jim Carr, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin LeBlanc, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Roger Tipton, Mr. and Mrs. Carliss Powell, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Buck, Mrs. Mae Ellis, Mrs. Flo Birchfield, Mr. and Mrs. Zeb Honeycutt, Mrs. Grace Daniels, Mr. Rudy Robinson, Mr. Ed Roark, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Naille, Mrs. Mae Tipton, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby McCurry, Mrs. Trish Collins, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Usary and Shane, Mr. Bobby Burleson, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Smith, Mr. Bobby Jack Tipton, Mrs. Irabelle Boone and her six sons and their wives, Mrs. Mary Lou Boone, Tanya and Danielle, and the Rev. Ron Lackey. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, in the Sunset Chapel of the Hathaway- Percy Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Stout and the Rev. Zeb Honeycutt, ministers, officiating. Interment will follow in the Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Davis, Greg Creekmore, Al LaBlanc, Jr., Bobby McCurry, Donald Naille and Brad Tashenberg. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe and Shane Usary. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
