Reece Gladys Cates Reece, 94, currently of Hixson, Tenn., previously of the Dennis Cove Community of Hampton, went home to Heaven on Saturday, January 21, 2006, at her residence following a brief illness. Mrs. Reece was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late R.C. and Ida Crowe Cates. Mrs. Reece retired from Bemberg in 1973. She was the oldest member of Hampton Christian Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Reece was preceded in death by her first husband, Arnold Tollett; her second husband, Kermit Reece; a brother, L.D. Cates; and four sisters, Ruth Campbell, Thelma Cates, Ethel Pierce and Helen Pierce. Survivors include three daughters, Betty Tollett Spencer and her husband Phil of Ringgold, Ga., Ruth Smedley and her husband Randall of Chattanooga, and Edna Moncrief, Wilmington, N.C.; a son, Joe Reece and his wife Mary Ann of Chesapeake City, Md.; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Leona Stout, Cumberland, Va. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Reece will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, January 23, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Mr. L.D. Campbell and Mr. Dwayne Calhoun, ministers, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Friends and family are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. for that service. Active pallbearers will be grandsons. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hampton Christian Church, 810 Deerfield Lane, Hampton, TN 37658.
