CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - J.G. "Jay" Rainbolt, 31 Jul 1984 ----¤¤¤---- Obituary appeared in the Wednesday, August 1, 1984 Elizabethton Star J.G. "Jay" Rainbolt, 65, Rt. 2, Butler, died Tuesday at his residence following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Grant and Selma Smith Rainbolt. Mr. Rainbolt was a member of the Fish Springs Baptist Church, a retired employee of the State of Tennessee Highway Department, having 25 years service, and an Army Veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Cordellia Hazel Rainbolt, April 26, 1983, by a sister, Erma Rainbolt, and by two brothers, Howard Rainbolt and Jud Rainbolt. Survivors include two sons, Julius Howard Rainbolt, Rt. 2, Butler, and Toby Ray Rainbolt, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Janie Ann Cable, Rt. 2, Butler; and three sisters, Mrs. Retha Whaley, Mrs. Bertha Whaley and Mrs. Voila Whaley, all of Rt. 2, Butler, Two grandsons also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements. Funeral services for J.G. "Jay" Rainbolt, 65, Rt. 2, Butler, who died Tuesday, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday from the Fish Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Clay Daniels, Rev. Dennis Ward and Rev. Donnie Davenport officiating. Music will be under the direction of the church choir. Interment will follow in the Griffith Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be David Lunceford, L.J. Whaley, Earl Reese, Johnny Campbell, Bill Davis, and Jim Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Clyde Miller, L.D. Whaley and fellow employees of the State Highway Department. Flower attendants will be ladies of the Fish Springs Baptist Church. The body will be returned to the residence at 10 a.m. Thursday, where the family will be receiving friends.
