This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: The Elizabethton Star http://www.starhq.com/ ==================================================================== Ernest "BlackCat" Rasar 03/25/99 Ernest "Black Cat" Rasar, 77, 802 Parkway Blvd., Elizabethton, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Rasar was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Snyder Rasar and Lela Rasar Richardson. He was also preceded in death by a brother. Mr. Rasar was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elizabethton and many civic and sporting organizations. He graduated from U.T. and ETSU with a B.S. degree in physical education and social studies and earned his master's degree in Education Supervision and Administration from the University of Mississippi. Mr. Rasar held many positions in the Carter County School System, including attendance teacher, supervisor, principal for many years, and most recently served two terms as superintendent of schools. He also worked for D.C. Heath Publishing Company and the U.S. Forest Service. In addition, he served for 40 years as a TSSAA basketball and football official. He was a U.S. Marine veteran, serving in World War II in the Pacific and Okinawa and Occupation Forces in China. Survivors include his wife, Madelyn Rasar, of the home; a daughter, Lee Anna Rasar, Eau Claire, Wis.; a half-brother, John Rasar, Kingsport; and three half-sisters, Lucy Peters and Patty Gentry, both of Elizabethton, and Sue Ready, Knoxville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. RASAR -- Funeral services for Ernest "Black Cat" Rasar, 77, 802 Parkway Blvd., Elizabethton, who died Tuesday, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Elizabethton with Rev. Bobby Stout, Rev. Harry Moore and Rev. Brent Seals officiating. Music will be under the direction of his daughter, Lee Anna Rasar, and Mary Ann Berry. A presentation of music will begin one-half hour prior to the scheduled service time for family and friends who wish to attend. Graveside services will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Ron Owens officiating. Active pallbearers will be John Norman Crumley, Bill Griffith, Pat Goddard, Charles Goddard, Kyle Hart, Randall Birchfield, Pat Hicks, Billy Bob Garrison and Bob Goddard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel. For those who prefer, memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Ernest Black Cat Rasar Scholarship Fund for Carter County Board of Education, 305 Academy Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
