CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Arlie Reece, 28 Mar 2004 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Arlie Reece, 83, Minton Hollow Rd., Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, March 28, 2004 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Mountain City, he was a son of the late Thaddus and Lizzie Musgrove Reece. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation after 40 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 769th Military Police Battalion. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Rayburn, Bruce and Dan Reece, and a sister, Juanita, and also 8 half brothers and sisters and a grand- daughter, Eva Grindstaff. Mr. Reece was a member and trustee of Harmony Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ruth Carrier Reece; five daughters, Barbara "Cook" and her husband, Mike Hollyfield; Rachel Hyder; Penny and her husband, Derrick Gouge; Billie Jean and her husband, Robert Wade Jones, and Savanna "Fannie" Reece, all of Elizabethton; a son, Sammy Joe Reece, Elizabethton; 7 grandchildren, Crystal Morris, Amanda Hyder, Becky Hyder, Jodi Jones, Phillip Hyder, Jason Hyder, Josh Jones; great-grandchildren, Bobby Morris, Jr. and Jaydan Hyder; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 2004 in the Harmony Baptist Church with the Rev. Haskel Ingram, Rev. Jim "Butch" Stout and Rev. Horace Bowers officiating. Burial will follow in the Emmert Cemetery. Music will be by Sue Hamm and the church choir. Active pallbearers will be Phillip Hyder, Jason Hyder, Jerry Reece, Wayne Clemons, Jerry Blevins, Steve Stout, Joshua Jones and Jonathan Bowers. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Hollyfield, Bobby Morris, Sr., Steve Reece, Doc Love, Aaron Jones, Conley Bullock, Sam Crowder, Eugene Malone, Gene Carrier, Claire Keyes, Ronnie Keyes, Bobb Carrier, all of his nephews, and friends of Harmony Baptist church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2004 in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. VFW Post #2166 will conduct military graveside honors.
