CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Joyce M. "Nanny" Reece, 28 Feb 2005 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Joyce M. "Nanny" Reece, 76, Garrison Hollow Road, Elizabethton, died Monday, February 28, 2005, at Johnson City Medical Center of injuries sustained when she was struck by a vehicle. Mrs. Reece was a native of Yancey County, N.C., and had lived in Carter County since 1954. She was a daughter of the late Jeff and Rissie Byrd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard B. Reece, November 1, 1972, two brothers, Shelton Byrd and Sheeler Byrd, and a sister, Mary Jane Sparks. Mrs. Reece had been a member of East Side Free Will Baptist Church since 1960 and loved her church family. She was a homemaker. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Philip Stanley, with whom she made her home; two granddaughters, who were her pride and joy, Rebecca Stanley and Marie Stanley, both of the home; a special little buddy, Joshua Miller, Elizabethton; and a special cousin, James Byrd, Burnsville, N.C. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A special thanks is extended to Joyce Grindstaff and her family, special friends of Mrs. Reece, for their friendship. Come and see me in my new home. The funeral service for Mrs. Reece will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 3, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Messer, Rev. Willie Justice, Rev. D.C. Byrd and Rev. Richard Adams officiating. Music will be under the direction of the East Side Free Will Baptist Church Choir, Rev. Mark Simmons, Joyce Grindstaff and June Gouge. The graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 4, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Everyone is requested to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:30 until 8 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the residence at anytime. Active pallbearers will be Al Hughes, Rev. Mark Simmons, Gary Elliott, David Collins, Chris Holder, Glenn Marley, Randy Carrier and Jesse Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews Jim Byrd, Hugh Byrd, Darrell Sparks, Jerry Sparks and Gaylon Byrd. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the East Side Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, 704 Siam Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
