Rhea 05/12/99 Woodrow W. Rhea, 82, 267 McKeehan Ridge Road, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at the James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center following an illness of one year. Mr. Rhea was a native of Carter County and a son of the late B.S. Rhea Sr. and Lyda Taylor Rhea. Mr. Rhea was retired from North American Rayon Corporation. He was a member and deacon of Powder Branch Baptist Church and had served as chairman of the deacon board for over 40 years. He served in the 872nd Airborne Engineering Battalion during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Mildred McKeehan Rhea; a son and daughter- in-law, Gary and Norma Rhea, Winston-Salem, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Julie Rhea and Geoffrey Rhea, both of Winston-Salem, N.C. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. RHEA -- Funeral services for Woodrow W. Rhea, 82, 267 McKeehan Ridge Road, Elizabethton, who died Tuesday, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Art Webb and Rev. Dennis Peterson officiating. Mrs. Carol Greenwell, soloist, will provide the music. Interment will be at Happy Valley Memorial Park. The Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166 will provide military honors at the graveside. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:50 p.m. Thursday, will be Steve Rhea, Herman Sheppard, Clint Perkins, Bob Livingston, Teddy Reed, Charles Holliwell, Jim Livingston and Lee Hubbard. Honorary pallbearers will be his church family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Rhea to the Hale Community Ministries Building Fund, c/o Watauga Baptist Association, 3871 Highway 19E, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
