Mr. Roberts was a native of Carter County and the son of the late James and Mollie Barnett Roberts. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and George Roberts. Mr. Roberts attended Sugar Hollow Free Will Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the 82nd Airborne Division. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Jarrett Roberts, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Joe Winters, Roan Mountain; two brothers, Jason Roberts, Roan Mountain, and Howard Roberts, Hampton; three sisters, Lucy Hughes and Edith Gibbs, both of Roan Mountain, and Pearl Birchfield, Elizabethton; and a special niece, Brenda Barnett, Hickory, N.C. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, (423) 542-2232, is in charge of arrangements. www.Funeral-Plans.com/Tetrick ROBERTS -- Funeral services for Mack Roberts, 80, 109 Pine Lane, Roan Mountain (Cove Creek Community), who died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at Sugar Hollow Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Randy English, Rev. Rick Birchfield and Rev. Rex Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Jarrett Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be Johnny Hill, Carroll Hill, Jack Barnett, Dennis Sheets, Jack Troutman, Douglas Roberts and Danny Winters. Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Charlie Trivette, Rev. Howard Honeycutt, Rev. Johnny Vance, Rev. Dan Blevins, Rev. Leonard Sheehan, Rev. Buck Watson, Rev. Dale Hunter, Rev. Doug Wagner and Rev. John L. Stockton. Mr. Roberts will be taken to Sugar Hollow Free Will Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Friday where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
