Roberts Pearl L. Roberts, 75, 705 Hemlock Street, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, August 23, 2000, at her residence following a brief illness. Mrs. Roberts was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late John Wesley and Bina Pitts Mays. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Tipton Roberts, December 4, 1986, and three brothers, Henry Mays, Herman Mays and Dale Mays. Mrs. Roberts was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of Leon-Ferenbach Inc., and a former employee of 7-Hour Laundry and Dry Cleaners. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Johanna and Sal Palumbo, Oakton, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, Wesley Eugene and Janice Bailey, Orange Park, Fla.; a sister, Rada Brown, Asheboro, N.C.; a brother, Earl Mays, Elizabethton; three granddaughters, Kimberly Vaccaro, Reston, Va., Alexis Palumbo, Oakton, Va., and Sherry Jewell, Ft. Myers, Fla.; a grandson, Jason Payne, Atlanta, Ga.; two great-granddaughters, Josephine Arabela Vaccaro, Reston, Va., and Carly Nicole Jewell, Ft. Myers, Fla.; and a special friend, Effie Holder, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Roberts, 75, 705 Hemlock Street, Elizabethton, who died Wednesday, August 23, 2000, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, August 25, at Treadway Cemetery, Elizabethton, with Rev. D.C. Byrd officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Scott Caudle, Dr. John L. Freeman, Dr. Robert Walter, Dr. Arnold Hopland, David Hilton and Dr. Amy Thomas. Special thanks to Johnson City Hospice and Homecare. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
