CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Lena H. Russell, 25 Nov 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Lena H. Russell, 83, Charity Hill Road, Elizabethton, went to Heaven on November 25, 2004 in Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Lon T. and Nannie Treadway Hyder. She taught at Gap Creek School from 1946-47. She was a homemaker and worked for Watson's 28 years. She was a member of East Side Free Will Baptist Church, where she was the sunshine chairman of the Ladie's Auxillary. She was also a volunteer at the Old Carter County Memorial Hospital as a pink lady until it closed, and then worked as a volunteer in the gift shop at Sycamore Shoals Hospital until 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther R. Russell, in 1974; a brother, Lonnie T. Hyder; three infant sisters, Frances, Margaret and Anna Mae, and a granddaughter, Veronica Lynn Russell. Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Crowe, Elizabethton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Linda Richardson Russell, Salem, Va., and Gary Lynn and Colleen Ogden Russell, Franklin County, Va.; six grandsons, Shane Russell, of Salem, Va.; Jared Russell and his wife, Kim, of Salem, Va.; Richard Crow and his wife, Cathy, Elizabethton; Darrell Crow and his wife, Lisa, Hampton; Gary Russell II and Aaron Russell, both of Franklin County, Va.; two granddaughters, Nicole Richardson and her husband, Randy, Jonesborough; Trina Foley and her husband, Scott, Franklin County, Va.; three great grandsons, Michael Crow, Hampton; Joshua Crow, Elizabethton, and Hunter Richardson, Jonesborough; five great granddaughters, Nikki and Amber Crow, Elizabethton; Abigail and Emily Richardson, Jonesborough, and Delaney Grace Foley, Franklin County, Va.; one brother, Glen Hyder, Elizabethton; three sisters, Josephine Lyons, Elizabethton; Dorothy Burch and her husband, Bill, of California, and Mildred Sullivan, of Smithfield, N.C. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, two very special friends, Nell Fair and Ruby Holtsclaw, and numerous church friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2004 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mark Simmons and Rev. Howard Messer officiating. Burial will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Abbie Buckles, Kathy Lethcoe, Richard Crow, Nikki and Michael Crow and Alice Bunton, organist, will provide the music. Active pallbearers will be her six grandsons, Richard Crow, Darrell Crow, Shane Russell, Jared Russell, Gary Russell II, and Aaron Russell. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Crow, Joshua Crow, Randy Richardson, Marty Willis, Sam Grindstaff, Cecil Simmons, Darrell Simmons, Ray Simmons, Horace Calhoun, Earl Williams, Ray Richardson, Gerald Peters, Junior Guess and her church family.
