Elaine S. Shell 


    Elaine S. Shell, 81, 315 Morgan Branch Road, Roan Mountain, passed away 
peacefully Friday, February 29, 2008, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center 
following a brief illness. 


    A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Ed and Belva 
Miller Shell. 


    Mrs. Shell was a member of Upper Shell Creek Christian Church and was a 
homemaker. 


    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, 
James Shell, a sister and seven brothers. 


    Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Hoss, Newland, N.C.; two sons and a 
daughter-in-law, Wayne and Pat Shell, and Willie Shell, all of Roan Mountain; 
seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Odell Shell, Roan 
Mountain; and three sisters and a brother-in-law, Ruby Shell and Mary Lou 
Hoss, both of Roan Mountain, and Melissa and James Hopson, Elizabethton. 


    The funeral service for Mrs. Shell will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, 
March 2, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, with 
Rev. James Storie and Rev. Delaney Berry officiating. Music will be under the 
direction of Charlotte Smith. Interment will follow in the Richardson 
Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Matt McKinney, Jim McKinney, Zachary 
Street, Troy McLaughlin, Rudolph Campbell and Beryl Norris. The family will 
receive friends in the funeral chapel from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, prior to the 
service. Friends may also call at the residence of her son, Wayne, 288 Shell 
Creek Road, Roan Mountain, at other times. Condolences may be sent to the
