Mr. Shipley was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Earnest and Della Richards Shipley. Mr. Shipley was retired from the City of Elizabethton in the Water Department and was a member of Borderview Christian Church. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Helen Bowman Shipley; a son and daughter-in- law, John Dwayne and Jeannie Shipley of Indianapolis, Ind.; two grandchildren, Tammy and John; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Letha and Lawrence Ritchie of Elizabethton and Kathleen and Jim Duffy of North Port, Fla.; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Marion and Margie Shipley of Elizabethton and Curtis and Barbara Shipley of St. Charles, Mo. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Shipley will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, November 11, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Kirk Langston officiating. Music will be provided by Ray Don Markland and Scott Reynolds. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday, November 13, in the National Cemetery, Mountain Home. Military Graveside Honors will be provided by the V.F.W. Post #2166. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Monday, will be Doug Shipley, Baxter Shipley, Gaylord Hyder, Rick Strader, Dillon Shipley and John Bare. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Monday to go to the cemetery.
