Cora L. Shoun 





    Cora Leona Coefer Shoun, 92, formerly of 280 Judge Don Lewis Blvd., 

Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 11, 2007, at the 

Mayfield Rehabilitation Center, Smyrna, Tenn., following a three-month 

illness. 





    Born June 9, 1915 in Carter County to the late Major Sam and Martha 

Grindstaff Coefer, she was well-known in the community for her love of 

gardening and quilting. 





    Mrs. Shoun was an active member of Hunter First Baptist Church for over 50 

years, where she taught several Sunday School classes and sang in the church 

choir. She and her husband, Jessie, hosted several missionary students from 

the Moody Aviation School over the years. 





    Mrs. Shoun was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Sycamore 

Chapter No. 163. She was employed by Bemberg Corporation for many years. 





    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 

years, Jessie H. Shoun, and three sisters, Hazel C. Bocon, Ora C. Asher and 

Stella C. Tulli. 





    Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Donna Shoun Campbell Adams 

and John Adams, Elizabethton; two granddaughters, Deanna Lee Campbell Davis 

and her husband Wesley Davis, Cameron, N.C., and Dani Sue Thompson and her 

husband Cory Thompson, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; two great-granddaughters, Jessica 

Davis, Raleigh, N.C., and Nicole Davis, Cameron, N.C.; and four brothers and 

three sisters-in-law, Sam and Edith Coefer, Elizabethton, George and Margaret 

Coefer, Huntsville, Ala., Howard and Norma Coefer, Trenton, N.J., and Lawrence 

Coefer of Thailand. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. 





    The funeral service for Mrs. Shoun will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, 

June 13, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Eric Eggers 

officiating. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active 

pallbearers will be Wesley Davis, Cory Thompson, Mack McClellan and Allen 

Lyons. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Ellis, Cecil Eggers and 

Linkous "Squeak" Nidiffer. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. 

Tuesday, June 12, at the funeral home. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of 

flowers may make donations to the Carter County Emergency and Rescue Squad,
