"Dee" Simerly L.D. "Dee" Simerly, 76, 181 Shenandoah Drive, Johnson City, died Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Simerly was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Paul Simerly Sr. and Mamie Lewis Simerly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Simerly Jr. Mr. Simerly retired as vice president of the J.E. Green Company after 47 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Geraldine Jessee Simerly; a son, Terry Lee Simerly, Eustis, Fla.; a daughter, Cyndi Caudill, Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Andy Simerly, Ashley Simerly and Jessica Pierce; two great-grandchildren, Hailey Grace and Taylor; and a sister, Gladys Webb, Elizabethton. Funeral services for Mr. Simerly will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, May 26, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bruce Hendrich officiating. The Eulogy will be given by Mr. Mike Kidd. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, will be Joel Piercy, E.B. Tolliver, Jim Lewis, Andy Simerly, Sam Santa Rita, D.H. Hampton, Johnny Lewis and Dan Mills. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jeff Glezer, Dr. Michael Ponder and Harold Hampton. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Simerly to "We Love Our Church" c/o Oak Street Baptist Church, 804 Oak Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
