Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. He was a faithful servant to the end. A very loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of Woodby Hill Free Will Baptist Church, a deacon, Sunday school teacher and treasurer for many years. He was a World War II veteran, serving in Europe, England and France. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He was preceded in death by his parents, John B. and Ida Hyder Simerly; in addition to a grandson, Carmon Edward Simerly; five sisters, Elsie Dotts, Edna Gouge, Irene Berry, Mamie Clark and Emily Simerly; and three brothers, Carson, Butch and Laughton Simerly. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Eva Lena Roark Simerly; one daughter and son-in-law, Edwina and David Humphry; two sons and daughters in law, Edward and Janice Simerly and Elwood and Judy Simerly; five grandchildren, Melandie and husband Scott Akins, Adam and his wife, Amber Simerly, Jennifer Simerly and friend, Michael, Jeff Simerly and friend, Jordan, and Angie Smith; two great-grandchildren, Jade and Sydney Simerly, and two step-great grandchildren, Blake and Jacob Akins; two brothers, Omar and Albert Simerly; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Nathan Woodby and Doug Carver. Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2006, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Alex Carver and the Rev. Charlie Trivette officiating. Graveside and interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2006, in the National Cemetery, Mountain Home. Active pallbearers will Elwood, Edward, Jeff, Adam, Max, Gary, Eston, Vaughn, and Junior Simerly, David Humphry and Eddie Stockton. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Woodby Hill Church, the little childrens class and the senior class, Larry, Rita and Luke Taylor, Norman Simerly, Earnie and Blair Reed, Ray Cates, Ray Simerly, and Cecil Hyder. Special thanks to the V.A. Nursing Home, second floor staff and nurses, Dr. Angela May and Karen Gunn. Music will be provided by the Osborne family. The family will receive friends from 6 -8 p.m. in the chapel prior to the service hour. Friends may also call at the residence at any time. Pallbearers, family and friends will assemble at the funeral chapel at 1:15 p.m. Friday to go to the cemetery. Online condolences to the Simerly family may be addressed to mfc@chartertn.net.
