Smith Carmon C. Smith, 85, 905 Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton, died Friday, January 5, 2007, at North Side Hospital. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Grover C. and Lillie Large Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Monroe Smith, and two sisters, Mabel Oaks and Beulah Britt. Mr. Smith was a retired Master Electrician. He worked at the Bemberg Corporation for several years and retired from the ITT Corporation. He was of the Protestant faith. Mr. Smith served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 2166 and the American Legion Post No. 49. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Alta Clark Smith; three daughters and a son-in-law, Jane Smith of Johnson City, Nancy Wright of Knoxville and Marion and Tony Mottern of Watauga; a sister, Mary Ruth Ledford of Erwin; three grandchildren, Richard Wright and his wife Susan, Cathy Selbert and Michael C. Mottern; and a great-grandson, Bristol Selbert. Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, January 8, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. David Tysinger and Mr. H. Clay Bailey officiating. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Bob Allen officiating. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 2:50 p.m. Monday, will be Bobby G. Britt, Tyler Britt, Gene Oaks, Larry Forbes, John R. Clark Jr., Richard Clark, Paul Woodby and Raymond Ward. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Stout, J.C. Anderson, Charlie Brown, Kenny Lewis, Bill Grindstaff, Steve Hyder, Brady Smith, John Forggatt, Ronnie Lowe, G.W. Lewis, Farrell Hutchins, Louis Clark and Bob Hamby. The family would like to express a special "thank you" to the ICU Staff of North Side Hospital. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
