Jacob L. Sams

Jacob Leonard Sams, 81, of Fredericksburg, Va., formerly of Lake of 
the Woods, Va., died Thursday, April 24, 2003, at Mary Washington 
Hospital.
Mr. Sams was a native of Elizabethton, Tenn., and the son of the late 
Edgar and Callie Sams.
Mr. Sams was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served during World War II as 
a noncommissioned officer in the Ceremonial Detachment at Ft. Myer, Va. 
He retired from the U.S. Soldiers Home, Washington, D.C., after 20 years. 
He attended Faith Baptist Church and was a member of the Loyal Order of 
the Moose Lodge #1655 and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy B. Sams, of the home; a daughter, 
Dorothy Paul, of Virginia; a son, L. Wayne Sams, Charlotte, N.C.; two 
sisters, Mary Nell Street and Helen Sams, both of Elizabethton; two 
brothers, Bob Sams, Knoxville, and Gerald Sams, Asheville, N.C.; two 
grandsons, Joshua W. Sams and Michael A. Coseo; a granddaughter, Shawn 
A. Bergman; a great-granddaughter, Ryanne Bergman; and a great-grandson, 
Sawyer W. Sams.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 28, at Covenant Funeral 
Service Chapel, Fredericksburg, Va., (540) 898-4326. Interment will 
follow at Quantico National Cemetery.
