CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Kate Range Sams, 9 Jan 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Kate Range Sams, age 93, Southside Road, Elizabethton, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Hermitage Health Center, Elizabethton. She was a native of Carter County, (Gap Creek community), and was the daughter of the late William Abraham and Etta Pierce Range. Mrs. Sams was a member of Zion Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul L. Sams. She was one of 10 children, all girls: Myrtle Collins, Maude Morton, Sallie Hyder, Celia Hyder, Ossie Meredith, Hattie Vanover, and Haskle Range. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert L. and Martha Sams, Elizabethton; one grandson, Brian Sams, Elizabethton; one granddaughter and spouse, Amy and Keith Outland, Atlanta, Ga.; one great-grandson, Austin Lewis Outland, Atlanta, Ga.; and two sisters, Gretchen Whittemore, Elizabethton, and Nellie Pospiech, Inverness, Fla. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, with the Rev. C.W. Snodgrass officiating. Music will be under the direction of Missy Woods. Interment will follow the funeral service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Brian Sams, Carroll Meredith, Elmer Sams, Jr., Steve Sams, Jack Johnson, Roland Whittemore and Keith Outland. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Meredith, Jerry Sams, Gene Sams, friends of Zion Baptist Church and the staff of Hermitage Health Center. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hermitage Health Center for their kindness and gentle care for the past five years.
