Shell 11/15/99 Nola Vance Shell, 94, formerly of Route 3, Roan Mountain, died Saturday, November 13, 1999, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center following a lengthy illness. Ms. Shell was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late John R. and Sally Elizabeth Johnson Vance. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Creed Shell; three sons, Darrell, Donald and Wade Shell; three brothers, John Frank, Archibald and Clarence Vance; and three sisters, Alma Vance, Winnie Vance and Oma Vance McGuire. Ms. Shell was a Charter Member of Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 45 years, and was a member of the Senior Citizens Center. She helped pioneer the office of Economic Opportunity in Carter County during the 1960s. She also was instrumental in obtaining a Certificate of Need from Nashville for the Roan Highlands Nursing Center. Survivors include a brother, Howard Vance, Roan Mountain, and six grandchildren, Vicki Shell, Johnson City, Patrick Shell, Limestone, Gordon Shell, Jonesborough, Amy Spickard and Darrell Shell Jr., both of Roanoke, Va., and John Ellis, Boone, N.C. Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, www.Funeral- Plans.com/Tetrick, is in charge of arrangements. SHELL -- Funeral services for Nola Vance Shell, 94, formerly of Route 3, Roan Mountain, who died Saturday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Ronnie Edwards officiating. Music will be under the direction of Gene Vance, Mrs. Linda West and Charlotte Smith & Family. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Danny Miller, Patrick Shell, Gordon Shell, Richard Shell, Conley Shell and Will Hughes. Honorary pallbearer will be Hale Vance. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Rhododendron Chapel.
