Quillen VA Medical Center, Johnson City. Mr. Shell was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Ed and Belle Miller Shell. Mr. Shell retired from the U.S. Army after 21 years of service to his country, having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Louise Cable Shell, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Lewis Grindstaff, Minneapolis, N.C.; a granddaughter, Jaime Grindstaff, Minneapolis, N.C.; a grandson, John Grindstaff, Minneapolis, N.C.; three sisters, Mary Lou Hoss, Elaine Shell and Ruby Shell, all of Roan Mountain, and Melissa Hopson, Hampton; and two brothers, O'dell Shell and Mack Shell, both of Roan Mountain. Reed Callahan and the Rev. Tommy Carver officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, in the Elk Park Cemetery. The family, friends and pallbearers will gather at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service hour.
