Nell G. Shell

  Nell Gibbs Shell, 83, 495 Teaberry Road, Roan Mountain, died Friday, May 11, 
2001, at her residence following a brief illness.
  Mrs. Shell was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Jim 
and Rosie Brown Gibbs. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leon 
Dale Shell; a grandson, David Gardner; three sisters, Maggie Greene, Mae 
Miller and Jane Gibbs; and two brothers, Howard Gibbs and Tom Gibbs.
  Mrs. Gibbs attended Spruce Pine Church of God. She was a homemaker.
  Survivors include three sons, Sandy Shell, Newland, N.C., Roger Shell, Roan 
Mountain, and Carrol Shell, Hampton; five daughters, Leona Greene, Spruce 
Pine, N.C., Sylvia Bowers, Minneapolis, N.C., Penny Tolley and Audrey Smith, 
both of Hampton, and Barbara Gardner, Crossnore, N.C.; five grandsons; nine 
granddaughters; 13 great-grandchildren; and a special friend and sister-in-
law, Edith Gibbs. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

  GIBBS -- Funeral services for Nell Gibbs Shell, 83, 495 Teaberry Road, Roan 
Mountain, who died Friday, May 11, 2001, will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, 
May 13, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, with the 
Rev. Garry Smith and the Rev. Tony Clark officiating. Music will be under the 
direction of Donna Clark, soloist. Interment will follow the service at 
Richardson Cemetery, Morgan Branch Community. Active pallbearers will be Tim 
Ledford, Kevin Smith, Tony Arnett, Bobby Stevens, Freddie Bowers, Eric Greene, 
Jeremiah McClain, Wayne Gibbs and Mike Ogle. The family will receive friends 
from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Rhododendron Chapel or at the residence of a 
daughter, Audrey and Richard Smith, 155 Brown's Branch Road, Hampton, at any
