A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Burg and Bell Shell. He was preceded in death by a son, Jay B. Shell. He was formerly a plant worker. Mr. Shell served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a recipient of the Service Cross and three Purple Hearts. Mr. Shell was a member of Hampton Free Will Baptist Church. He was a member of the VFW Post 2166. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Mike Nash and Freda and John Hill, all of Hampton, two sisters, Lucille Street, Elizabethton, and Maude Eraci, Dundee, Ill., five grandchildren, Johnny Bryan Hill, Jason Hill, Misty McCoury, Jennifer Owens and Micah Nash, two great-grandchildren, Dru Owens, and Izaak Hill, several nieces and nephews, his special friends, the family of Betty Bowers, Dr. M. Harlley, James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, and Elsie Ray. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. SHELL -- Funeral services for Buster Shell, 71, 118 Nannie Smith Rd., Hampton, who died Tuesday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Funeral Chapel, with the Revs. James Archer, Mike Hyder and Bob Polk officiating. Graveside service and interment will be at 12 noon Friday in the Richardson Cemetery, Morgan Branch Rd., Roan Mountain. Tracie Shelton and Tracie Proffitt will provide the music. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 11:15 a.m. Friday, will be Chris Collins, Leebo McCoury, Mitchell Morton, Doug Calhoun, Rob Lambert and Mike Street. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Huskins, Raymond McIntosh, Ray Lambert, Phil Ellis, Tom Merkel, Bill Roberts, Wayne Lacey, Rodge Eraci and Allen Lyons. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Friends may also all at the residence of Debra and Mike Nash, 118 Nannie Smith Rd., Hampton. Military graveside honors will be conducted by VFW Post 2166. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 11:15 a.m. Friday to go to the cemetery.
