CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Oscar Ketron Shell, Jr., 20 Nov 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Oscar Ketron Shell, Jr., age 75, of Carter County, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2003 at James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, Johnson City, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Shell retired in 1991 from his private business of 43 years, due to Parkinson's Disease. From 1974 to 1991, he served on the Carter County Election Commission. Early in 1944, he worked for Roane-Anderson Company at Oak Ridge. On September 9, 1944, he enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps and served in the U.S. Air Force in the Philippines during World War II, and Korean War. He was a life member of VFW post #2166, American Legion and the Elks Lodge. He served as Staff Commander of the AMVETS in 1954-55. Mr. Shell was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar K. Shell, Sr., and Maruja Perry Shell, and his wife, Minnie Ellen Bunton Shell. Survivors include his sons, Michael K., of Knoxville, Mark Anthony of Elizabethton, Jeffrey Lee of Alexandria, Va.; Jon Kevin, Sr., of Elizabethton; one daughter, Lisa Kay (Mrs. Fred) Frost of Miami, Fla.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Joan Moore of Knoxville; Gwen Read of Kodak; Carmelita Pursell, of Jefferson City; Barbara Woods of Springfield, Va.; and one brother, Dr. Jon E. Shell of Sevierville. Interment services were held at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton.
