Mr. Sheffield was a native of Carter County and had lived in Washington County for four years. He was a son of the late Dayton and Sarah Carrier Sheffield and was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cindy Sheffield. Mr. Sheffield was an Army Veteran of World War II. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation and had later worked for Chaparral Pontiac and Buick. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, where he was a former Sunday School superintendent and trustee. Survivors include his wife, Lottie Street Sheffield; two sons, Joe Sheffield, Johnson City, and Brownie Sheffield, Gray; two daughters, Pat Grindstaff, Johnson City, and Neva Cody, Elizabethton; a sister, Iva Nave, Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Michael Sheffield, Missy Bible, Kevin Sheffield, Eric Grindstaff and Stephen Grindstaff; and three step- grandchildren, Evan Roswall, Tammy Jenkins and Kim Depew. Four great- grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Morris-Baker Funeral Home, 2001 Oakland Avenue, Johnson City, (423) 282-1521, is in charge of arrangements. SHEFFIELD -- Graveside services for Hunter Sheffield, 88, 4136 Bristol Highway, Unit A, Johnson City, who died Monday, March 27, 2000, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at Happy Valley Memorial Park where the family and friends are asked to meet for the services. Rev. Kenneth Gaskin and Mr. Paul Wood will officiate. For those who prefer, the family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Cedar Grove Baptist Church, 353 Cedar Grove Road, Johnson City, Tenn. 37601. Friends may call at the residence at any time or may register at the funeral home after 11 a.m. Tuesday.
