John Rhudy Shipley, 99, Shiloh Street, Lugoff, S.C., formerly of Bullocks Hollow Community, Watauga, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Shipley was a native of Carter County and the son of the late J.M. and Mary Elizabeth Richards Shipley. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae Bullock Shipley, November 23, 1978, a daughter, Frances Colbaugh, and a son, William "Henry" Shipley. Mr. Shipley was of the Baptist faith and was a retired employee of Bemberg Corporation. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Vernon Pike, Lugoff, S.C., Betty and Luther Hammitt, Elizabethton, and Barbara and Tom Rasberry, Petersburg, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin and Ethel Shipley, Lugoff, S.C.; and two sisters, Ida Morris and Ollie Massengill, both of Watauga. John Rhudy Shipley, 99, 128 Shiloh Street, Lugoff, S.C., formerly of Bullocks Hollow Community, Watauga, who died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, June 7, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Mr. Rocky Maines, minister, officiating. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Weaver Cemetery, Bristol. Active pallbearers will be Gene Pike, Carl Kelly, J.L. Hammitt, Johnny Shipley, Charles Mack Carr, Tommy Taylor, Richard Jones and Joe Colbaugh. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 9 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Those who prefer in lieu of flowers may make donations in memory of Mr. Shipley to Hospice of Kershaw County South Carolina, 2001 W. Dekalb Street, Camden, S.C. 29020.
