CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Osa Belle Simmons, 7 Aug 2004 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Osa Belle Simmons, 84, Johnson City, entered into the presence of our Lord on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at her residence following an extended illness. A native of Washington County, she was a daughter of the late Landon and Lucy Brummitt Street. She had lived most of her life in Carter County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, including her twin brother, Otis. Mrs. Simmons was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a charter member of East Side Free Will Baptist Church. She was a member of the "Mary Greer" Sunday school class and the church choir. Survivors include her husband, Cecil A. Simmons, of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Teresa Simmons; Roy and Sandi Simmons, all of Elizabethton, and Ralph and Wanda Simmons, Johnson City; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Johnny Holder, Elizabethton; one sister, Lena Honeycutt, of Tuttle, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchilren; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Edith Christmas, of Columbia, S.C., and a special sister-in-law, Ethel Street, Johnson City. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, August 9, 2004 in the East Side Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Howard Messer and Rev. Mark Simmons officiating. The graveside service and burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2004 in the Patton-Simmons Cemetery. Abbie Buckles, soloist; Kenny Lethoe, soloist, and Alice Bunton, organist, will provide the music. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the church at 7:55 p.m. Monday and also at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the men's Sunday school class, her church family, friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the East Side Free Will Baptist Church. Friends may also call at the residence. The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to the Adventa Hospice for their devoted care, with a special "thank you" to Abbie Buckles. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Simmons to the Family Life Center, East Side Free Will Baptist Church, 704 Siam Rd., Elizabethton, TN 37643.
