Simerly 3/20/00 Lydia Hall Simerly, 74, 424 Tiger Creek Road, Roan Mountain, died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at his residence following a lengthy illness. Mr. Simerly was a native and lifelong resident of Carter County and the son of the late John Landon and Susie Chambers Simerly. He was also preceded in death by six brothers, Lawrence, Rob, Jake, Dave, Dayton and Jim, and a sister, Delia Guinn. Mr. Simerly was a retired timber and sawmill worker and was of the Freewill Baptist Faith. Survivors include his wife, Oma Jean Hill Simerly, of the home; three sons, Rev. Lester Simerly, Roan Mountain, Rev. Ricky Simerly and Daney Simerly, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Steve Carver, Jonesborough; and two sisters, Mary Tolley, Kingsport, and Katie Jay Marzano, Roan Mountain. Three grandsons, two step-granddaughters, one step-great- granddaughter and several nieces and nephews also survive. Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. www.Funeral-Plans.com/Hathaway-Percy SIMERLY -- Funeral services for Lydia Hall Simerly, 74, 424 Tiger Creek Road, Roan Mountain, who died Thursday, March 16, 2000, were conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, with Rev. John Vance and Rev. Bob Davis officiating. Music was under the direction of Margaret Smith and Edna Woodby, soloists, and Mary Collins, pianist. Graveside services and interment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 19, in the Hall Cemetery, Tiger Creek Road, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be Joe Orr, Bill Highsmith, Earl Chambers, Gary Clark, Ken Woodby, Paul D. Smith, Bobby Hill and Jamie Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors. The family received friends Saturday evening at the funeral home. Friends may also visit or call the residence any time.
