Simerly KINGSPORT -- N.T. Simerly, 73, of Park Street, died Saturday, November 10, 2001. Mr. Simerly was a native of Carter County (Elizabethton) and a son of the late Nat and Dora Hartley Simerly. He was also preceded in death by seven sisters and seven brothers. Mr. Simerly served in the U.S. Army from January 1945 at the age of 15 until retirement on July 19, 1966 with over 21 years of service. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupations Medal with Germany Clasp, Vittles Clasp and Japan Clasp. He was a member of Ross Camp Ground United Methodist Church and a member of the Hawkins County VFW Post #9754 of Church Hill. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Davis Simerly, of the home; three sisters, Sally Johnson, Warren, Ohio, Hildred Montgomery, Elizabethton, and Lois Perry, Akron, Ohio; and a brother, Mack Simerly, Newport News, Va. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, is in charge of arrangements. SIMERLY -- Funeral services for N.T. Simerly, 73, of Park Street, Kingsport, who died Saturday, November 10, 2001, will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, November 12, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Calvin Tabor officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 13, at Liberty Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carmel. Active pallbearers will be the Honor Guard, U.S. Army, from Fort Campbell, Ky. Honorary pallbearers will be Pat Ramsey, Carmon Simerly, Michael Simerly, Brad Churchwell, Eric Davis, Chris Hill, Mike Buchanan, Joey Buchanan, Daniel Jones, Mike Howell and Michael Jenkins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Ross Camp Ground United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
