Slagle Clayton F. Slagle, 77, 354 Slagles Road, Elizabethton, died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Slagle was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Claude and Della Lyons Slagle. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Kyle Slagle. Mr. Slagle was owner-operator of Slagles Tire and owner/operator of Slagles Bluegrass Pasture. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Survivors include his wife, Virginia "Dare" Slagle, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Gail Slagle, Elizabethton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sue and Guy Ford, Elizabethton, and Barbara "Bobby" Williams; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a brother, Tom Slagle, Johnson City; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Betty and Lamar Harris and Wilma Brown, all of Panama City, Fla., and Theola and Otis Merritt of Alabama; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, John and Kathy Henson, Jack Perkins and Dr. David Jones. Slagle, 77, 354 Slagles Road, Elizabethton, who died Thursday, May 3, 2001, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with the Rev. Haskel Ingram officiating. Special Bluegrass music will be provided. Interment will follow the service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Jeffrey Lethcoe, Jerry Lethcoe, Michael Williams, Tony Slagle Jr., Joshua Scalf, Travis Lethcoe and Brandon Lethcoe. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Lunceford, Dr. Jeff Farrow, Judge John Walton, Judge Bob Cupp, Carter County Sheriff's Department and all Law Enforcement Agencies of Carter County and all his special Bluegrass family. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home. Friends may also call at the residence, 354 Slagles Road, Elizabethton, at any time.
