CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Amy LaVonn Slagle, 7 April 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Amy LaVonn Slagle, 79, Ridgecrest Drive, Elizabethton, was resurrected into Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her husband, Dr. David James Slagle, on Wednesday, April 7, 2004, following a brief illness. Mrs. Slagle had lived most of her life in Carter County and was the daughter of the late Joe and Amy Wagner. Mrs. Slagle was a graduate of Science Hill High School. She and her husband, David, were married December 25, 1942 and were married for a total of 54 years. She was an active member of Memorial Presbyterian Church and WIC and was also a member of the Franklin Dance Club and Women of the Moose. She was preceded in death by her husband, David James Slagle, a son, John David Slagle, and a brother, Frank Wesley Wandell. Survivors include her daughters, Elizabeth "Lisa" Slagle, Shirley Tweed and son-in-law, Dennis Tweed, Limestone, and Thelma Swanson and son-in-law, Greg Swanson; a sister, Shirley Gentry; a brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Betty Wandell; a sister-in-law, Ann Wandell Hensley; a daughter-in-law, Jeanetta Russo Slagle; her grandchildren, David Adam Slagle and Stefani Paige Slagle; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nancy and Jack Buck; several nieces and nephews; three special friends, Thelma Bowman, Glenda Adams and Bonnell Estep; and her beloved pet, Sadie. The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Joseph Rightmeyer officiating. Music will be under the direction of Josh Smith. Interment will follow the funeral service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be David Gentry, Greg Swanson, Dennis Tweed, Ken Wandell, Adam Slagle, Bob Wandell, Steve Wandell and Jimmy Wandell. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Williams, Bill Williams, Larry Pickens, Chris Tidwell, Kevin Cochran, members of Memorial Presbyterian Church and her many friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends at the church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, prior to the funeral service. Friends may also call at the residence any time.
