Slater GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Ruby Lee Smith Slater, 202 Holmes Drive, died Sunday, November 26, 2000, after a period of declining health. Mrs. Slater was a native of Elizabethton, Tenn., and the daughter of the late Dr. Lee and Luzettie Van Hoy Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert I. Slater, and by two brothers and four sisters. Mrs. Slater was retired from the Greenville County School District where she taught at Parker High School for 35 years. She received her undergraduate degree from Milligan College in Tennessee and her master's degrees from Furman University and Converse College. She was a member of Northgate Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Thomas R. Slater and Jay T. and Beth Slater, all of Greenville; a sister, Mary Jane Peden, Greenville; and four grandchildren, Thomas R. Slater II, William L. Slater, Rob Slater and Bess Slater, all of Greenville. Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Greenville, S.C., (864) 232-6733, is in charge of arrangements. SLATER -- Graveside services and interment for Ruby Lee Smith Slater, 202 Holmes Drive, Greenville, S.C., who died Sunday, November 26, 2000, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 28, at Woodlawn Memorial Park with Dr. Robert Whaley officiating. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 27, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, Greenville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northgate Baptist Church, 633 Summit Drive, Greenville, S.C. 29609. T he family is at their respective homes.
