CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Blanche Braswell Smalling, 24 Jul 2004 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Blanche Braswell Smalling, 81, Smalling Rd, Johnson City, died late Saturday, July 24, 2004 at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Smalling was a native and lifelong resident of Carter County and a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Williams Braswell. She was a 1940 graduate of Happy Valley High School and a member of the Watauga Point United Methodist Church. Mrs. Smalling was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smalling was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Jerry Dodson in 2001; two sisters, Ruby Braswell Weaver and Doris Braswell Little; two brothers, Carl Braswell and an infant brother, Thomas William Braswell, Jr. Mrs. Smalling is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, James W. Smalling, of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Betty and Troy McInturff, of Watauga, and Diane Smalling, of the home; a son and daughter- in-law, Thomas and Teresa Smalling, of Johnson City; six grandchildren, Andrea Bradford, Erica Dodson, Nathan McInturff, April Harrell, Duane Smalling, and Scott Smalling; a sister, Germaine Greer, of Elizabethton, and a brother, Deeston Braswell of Elizabethton, and eight great- grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mrs. Blanche Braswell Smalling will be conducted Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 8 p.m. in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Maggie Owens Yates and Rev. Mack Houston will officiate. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Washington County Memory Gardens. Friends and family are asked to meet at the funeral home no later than 9:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Gary Whidden, Rick Burchett, Ted Weaver, Jerry Weaver, Conley Williams, Brian Whidden, Trevor Weaver and Ryan Weaver. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Watauga Point United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be given to the Watauga Point United Methodist Church, 409 Gap Creek Rd., Elizabethton, TN 37643.
