Smith 09/03/99 Bessie V. Smith, 92, 103 Moody Road, Butler, died Thursday, September 2, 1999, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Smith was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late William and Melissa Matheson McPherson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James D. Smith, in 1966, a sister, Mae Lipford, and a brother, Cleo McPherson. Mrs. Smith was the oldest member of Little Milligan Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation with 21 years of service. Survivors include two nephews, Tommy McPherson, Springfield, Tenn., and David McPherson, Elkton, Ky. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. SMITH -- Funeral services for Bessie V. Smith, 92, 103 Moody Road, Butler, who died Thursday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the Autumn Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Nick Bradshaw and Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Music will be under the direction of Rev. Ronnie Campbell. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Butler Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Fred Griffey, D.B. Moody, Herbert Moody, Douglas Hatley, Grant Sharp and Elbert Matherly. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Little Milligan Baptist Church, friends and neighbors. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m. Saturday for the graveside services. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
