Vergie C. Smith

   Vergie C. Smith, 98, 353 Ingram Branch Road, Roan Mountain, died Monday, 
May 10, 1999, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton following an extended 
illness.
   Mrs. Smith was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late James 
and Susie Campbell Smith. She was also preceded in death by five brothers.
   Mrs. Smith was a member of the Sunrise Free Will Baptist Church.
   Survivors include a sister, Nola Hood, Portland, Ore. Several nieces and 
nephews also survive.
   Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

   SMITH -- Graveside services and interment for Vergie C. Smith, 98, 353 
Ingram Branch Road, Roan Mountain, who died Monday, will be conducted at 
10 a.m. Thursday in the Johnson Cemetery (Crabtree) with Rev. Jerry 
Honeycutt officiating. Pallbearers will be nephews. The family will receive 
friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Family and friends 
will assemble at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Thursday. Memorial Funeral Chapel 
is in charge of arrangements.
