Smith Cecil Smith, 79, 120 Cemetery Road, Elizabethton, died Sunday, December 31, 2000, at his residence. Mr. Smith was a native of Carter County and the son of the late James Alec and Jennie Perry Smith. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Maude Smith, and two sons, James C. Smith Jr. and Thomas Edward Smith. Mr. Smith was a member of Southside Christian Church. He was former owner of Smith's Paint and Body Shop and also former Deputy Sheriff and former Chief of Police of Watauga. Survivors include two sons, Danny Smith, Elizabethton, and Lonny Smith, Orlando, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Wayne Lyons, Elizabethton; 10 grandchildren, David Smith of Alabama, Luke and Adam Smith, both of Indiana, Michael and Travis Smith, both of South Carolina, Gabralle Smith, Orlando, Fla., Brittney Davis, Watauga, Chelsea Lyons, Emily Lyons and Wayne Lyons II, all of Elizabethton; three great- grandchildren; and a sister, Stella Mae Bowers, Mountain City. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later date.
