Smith Wayne William Smith, 87, 146 Jim Elliott Road, Elizabethton, died Friday, July 13, 2001, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital, Mountain Home, following a brief illness. Mr. Smith was a native of Carter County and the son of the late William Hamilton and Cordia Matherly Smith. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. Mr. Smith was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired carpenter with J.I. Cornett Construction Company and was a farmer. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include his wife, Kate Smith, of the home; four daughters, Nancy Clark, Elizabethton, Doris Clark, Johnson City, Janet Harkey, Cleveland, N.C., and Dixie Snyder, Elizabethton; and two sons, Jerry Smith and Roger Smith, both of Elizabethton. Fifteen grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, (423) 543-4917, is in charge of arrangements. Visit our Web site at www.Funeral-Plans.com/Tetrick SMITH -- Funeral services for Wayne William Smith, 87, 146 Jim Elliott Road, Elizabethton, who died Friday, July 13, 2001, were conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, with the Rev. Tommy Smith and the Rev. E. Lee Griggs officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be grandsons. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence, 146 Jim Elliott Road, Elizabethton, at any time. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Carter County Rescue Squad, P.O.
