Smith John Frank Smith, 76, 601 Dennis Cove Road, Hampton, died Tuesday, March 11, 2002, at Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Smith was a native of Carter County and a son of the late E.E. and Nancy Peters Smith. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Pearl Farmer Smith, in 1997, and by two grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters. Mr. Smith was retired from Amerace, Piney Flats. He was a member of Union Baptist Church, where he was Sunday School teacher of the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class. He was a member and former Chief of the Hampton Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the A Club. Survivors include his wife, Louella Montgomery Smith; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Rufus Reeves Jr., Lake Junalaska, N.C., Kathy and Dillard Whitehead, Elizabethton, and Frankie and Terry Green, Louisville, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles E. and Ellen Smith, Elizabethton; two stepdaughters, Verna Buckles and Linda Brewer, both of Hampton; a stepson, Jimmy Dale Ward, El Paso, Texas; two brothers, Tom Smith, Elizabethton, and Ted Smith, Hampton; and three sisters, Wanda Griggs of Georgia, Kate Smith and Ginna Lewis, both of Elizabethton. A number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. SMITH -- Funeral services for John Frank Smith, 76, 601 Dennis Cove Road, Hampton, who died Tuesday, March 11, 2002, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mickey Beal and the Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Music will be provided by The Glory Way Singers and Ronnie Campbell. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, March 15, in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the 2nd Floor Nursing Staff of Johnson City Medical Center, Dr. Shurber, Dr. Williams, Dr. Henson, the Adult Men's Class of Union Baptist Church, friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 9:55 a.m. Friday.
