CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Vester "Jack" Smith, 24 Oct 2002 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Vester Smith Mr. Vester "Jack" Smith, 101, formerly of 1165 U.S. Highway 91, Elizabethton, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in the Life Care Center of Elizabethton, following a brief illness. A native of Carter County native he was the son of the late Samuel and Belle Markland Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Campbell Smith, in 1986; two brothers, Clyde Smith and Neal Smith; and three sisters, Zola Elliott, Hazel Storey and Elizabeth Deal. Mr. Smith was a retired carpenter. He was a member and deacon of Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and John Milam, Ida, Mich., and Deloris and George Papantoniou and Geraldine and Terry Burrow, all of Elizabethton; four sons and daughters-in-law, Clifford and Dimple Smith and Lloyd and Ruth Smith,all of Elizabethton, Jackie and Paulette Smith, Petersburg, Mich., and Floyd and Charlene Smith, Toledo, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. SMITH -- Funeral services for Vester "Jack" Smith, age 101, formerly of 1165 Highway 91, Elizabethton, who died Thursday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church, with the Revs. D.C. Byrd and Bobby Burrow officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church Choir. Graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from the grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church, friends and neighbors. A special "thank you" to his caregivers: Rose Hinkle, Tammy Odom, Florine Odom, Ralph Davis, the nursing staff of Life Care Center of Elizabethton and Dr. Jason Hatjioannou. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.
