CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Kate M. Smith, 24 Sep 2003 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Kate M. Smith Kate M. Smith, 86, formerly of Jim Elliott Road, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, September 24, 2003, at Hermitage Health Center following a brief illness. Mrs. Smith was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Ernest E. and Nannie Peters Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wayne William Smith, two sisters, three brothers, and a son-in-law, Roger Clark. Mrs. Smith was a member of Zion Baptist Church. She was a homemaker. Survivors include four daughters and three sons-in-law, Nancy Loretta Clark, Elizabethton, Doris and Bill Clark, Johnson City, Janet and Robert Harkey, Statesville, N.C., and Dixie and Roy Snyder, Elizabethton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry and Judy Smith and Roger Smith, all of Elizabethton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ginger and R.J. Lewis, Elizabethton, and Wanda and Lee Griggs, Rossville, Ga.; and two brothers and sisters-in- law, Tom and Charlotte Smith, Elizabethton, and Ted and Peggy Smith, Hampton. Fifteen grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, September 25, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with the Rev. E. Lee Griggs and Mr. Tommy Smith officiating. The graveside service and interment will be at 1 p.m. Friday, September 26, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Hermitage Health Center and Dr. Robert Walter. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home chapel at 12:15 p.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home. Friends may also call at the residence, 146 Jim Elliott Road, Elizabethton, any time. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations in memory of Mrs. Smith to the Building Fund of Zion Baptist Church, 1982 Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
